Best football movie ever?

I still think Fever Pitch wins the prize. Colin Firth's obsession is enviable and the bit when he teaches his school team to play the offside trap perfectly (which they do) but the referee gives the goal anyway is magic. The only thing to match it is the cup tie in the mud in 'There's only one Jimmy Grimble' (to the tune of 'Two Tribes' if i remember correctly.)

  1. Fever Pitch is a magic movie in that it handles the fanaticism of supporting a team and kicking ever ball. It also deals well with how football interacts with relationships, father - son, a common bond, and guy - girlfriend, with the girl, just not getting the fact that you love football more than your burd, because after all football will be there for you after she is chucked !!!

  2. Totally agree Angela. My dad was a Motherwell fan and we used to argue like bears when the local derby came around - but at least it was a common interest we held. Without the football i'm not sure we'd have spoken about anything. And speaking as someone who's turned 'getting chucked' into an art-form, i'd say that you're on the money there too!
